I need help everyone and I hope that you guys would take time to read my post.
First of all, I need help in decorating a 60sqm condo unit.
1. This is my first home and me and my soon to be hubby will move in here by end of the year.
2. The theme of the condominium buildings and the overall style is indonesian-style.
3. I like sophisticated-minimalist-all-white-laidback style with a touch of happy colors and funky details. And with touch of Martha Stewart-ish type (Think Charlotte's apartment in SATC less the dark woods)
QUESTIONS:
a. can i decorate the our unit other than indonesian style? Can I veer from the indonesian-style and decorate the place my way?
b. If yes, then wouldn't it look odd that the balcony railings are brown (i can't repaint them because it will alter the look of the entire building and i am not yet sure if we're allowed to) and my unit has different theme?
c. How can I incorporate my style (as ive mentioned above) to meet the existing styles without looking odd and mismatched.
I can just go with the Indonesian theme but it's just not me. Doing so would mean nicer house but not so happy me. I want the place to reflect me.
Thanks so much in advanced!

Your home should reflect your tastes and interests. I'm a big believer in buying things because you love them; not buying things because they fit a certain style or "theme". I'm giving you the same advice I give my clients (I'm a licensed interior designer) - if it moves you, if you respond to it, then it fits your style.
The Indonesian thing could be a problem, but my best advice to you (not having seen any photos) is, basically, ignore it. Don't force yourself into committing to a look that you really don't like. I also warn against "themes" - they're useful because they're easy, but more times than not, they become self-inflicted handcuffs and create blind spots to other interesting pieces that otherwise would work, but don't fit with the "theme".
Hope this was helpful.
1I concur with RCL...and go with what you like. This would be a great opportunity to meld your tastes with those of your soon to be hubby.(silently praying for you if his style is bachelor/dorm/stuffed animal heads)
A transition from one style/Indonesian--to another/white-minimal does not have to look like two entirely different worlds. I would suggest getting something quirky like a Buddha and spray-paint it white and set it near your entry as a welcome from one world into another. Not sure if that is a cultural no-no but if it isn't it would be a funky way to move from one to another.
Wouldn't sweat the brown railing--usually any plant or artifact will distract the eye and I doubt anyone would even notice the railing. Once you have your own items in the space you've made it your own and you'll probably forget completely about the outer structure style of your building.
2You can do your own style. If you wanted you could throw in a token Indonesian accent here or there. Like an exotic basket or an orchid flower somewhere.
