On Wednesday, July 25, CasaSugar posted the Midday Muse: Midday Muse: Fun Retro Florals and posed the question, "How could you use this idea in a room?"

As it happens, we've been working on our living room as well and I was stuck for a piece of artwork that would work above the sofa.

Accepting CasaSugar's challenge and using the posted work from A Punkin Card Company as a guide and inspiration I painted the 48" x 24" canvas.

The painting itself was done in layers. The olive color, Behr, Coriander Seed from the opposing walls was rolled onto the canvas and allowed to dry.

Galleria Cerulean Blue was mixed with titanium white and applied with a roller as a second layer. This layer was allowed to thoroughly dry before the canvas was spot sanded, using a vibrating sander and fine grit paper, to expose the green and some of the canvas texture underneath. More of the green was dry brushed over some of the distressed areas to add more color.

Once this was dry, I used more of the Cerulean blue - straight from the tube - printed a repeating pattern cut from swatches of lace.

I drew the largest flower by hand and blocked my colors and then stenciled the repeating florals in Winsor Violet.

I haven't yet decided whether or not I am going to distress the stencil work and the more colorful flowers. If I do decide that is what I want, I'll do that with the vibrating sander and more of the fine grit paper.

Of course I've created more work for myself and I'm swapping out ::: Ehtereal Vibe ::: Art detail. An abstract tryptich created in acrylic on canvas.::: Ehtereal Vibe ::: Art detail. An abstract tryptich created in acrylic on canvas.

In favor of a new piece that's still on the drawing board. Despite the fact that I'm not a huge fan of matching art to a room, I think I have way too much going on not to do it.

Like I said, I have a lot going on in this room. Eye-wink
