Now, I know most of you might think African Violets are found only in old lady's houses (snicker!), but just wanted you to know they can be easy to grow, and if you get a self-watering pot like I have shown here, you only have to water when it gets low! If you pick off the dead blooms, it keeps them looking nice!

Guess what! Violets are in old ladies houses too! Especially since my daughter gave me some of hers. Ha! This one is a double and it is very pretty. Along with picking all old blooms off, it really helps them to bloom if they are sitting by others and if they are talked to. Don't think I am crazy. Just try it for a while and see if they don't start blooming beautifully.
1I loveeeeeeeeee these
2wow nice! african violets are normally notorious for being hard to keep alive (ahem..i am guilty of killing a few). my boss however has a way with them. she says they work best under indirect sunlight. she keeps hers under her fluorescent light and they really prosper. also never touch the tops of the leaves with your bare fingertips because the oils from your hands can kill them. oh and like many other plants they really do well with being talked to in a loving manner. weird i know.
of course these are all tips she told me and i have yet to keep any plants alive myself.
3Redhot--love it (old lady)
4I do not have a green thumb. I can destroy a fake plant.
5THey have special African Violet flower pots, too. I bought one at Lowe's or Home Depot, but still managed to kill mine! Maybe I will give it another shot and try again? Yours is so pretty.
6What kind of light to you put yours in?
I love african violets but they never did well in my dorm rooms when i was in college. Freshman year I over watered, Sophomore year there was no light, Junior year I left them one with my mother, Senior year I gave up. I'm thinking of getting another one and trying again...oh the poor plant that has to enter my house!
7They prefer northern light, and preferably not direct light. Mine stay in a NE window and seem to do very well there!
8I love African violets....I actually "inherited" some from my husband's grandpa....I've actually managed to keep them looking good, I think due to our big double doors that allow good light to come in w/out being to harsh!
9Gorgeous!
