Hello all!
We just moved into our first house, and are slowly filling/decorating it. My current "project" is trying to find something for the top of the built-in fireplace. It seems the builders assumed a TV would go there, but we don't want the focal point of the room all in one place, I would like the fireplace to stand alone.
My issue is: what the heck do I put above it? I was thinking a plant-type thing? But everything Ive found (real or fake) just arent cutting it. Now Im thinking some sort of Candle type thing? At the moment I have an empty vase and a lamp there.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!
Here is the pre move-in picture:

okay, i'll try to think what's great and will get back to you later, okay
1I like the idea of putting something on each wall in the corner, like similar prints or similar original artwork. Good luck!
2thanks ladies!
artwork is a good idea, because i would love to
cover up the outlet/cable hookup.
3I would do a mirror and two lamps on each side.
4i really love this fireplace. maybe just some assorted family photos in different sizes and really nice mismatched frames?
5the corner location seems a bit challenging... hmmm maybe a floral arrangement, some framed family photos or art items... well i guess it also depends on the furniture of this room
6I had a friend that was into feng shui that had an angled fireplace like yours. She had a fountain on the mantle, which she hid the cord down to the outlet with tall plants. On the mantle next to the fountain she had arrangements of candles and objects to hide the cord.
7great ideas ladies! thanks!
at the moment, i have mismatched frames of our favorite people on the mantle part of the fireplace, but depending on what i put above it, i dont know that they will change.
the mirror idea sounds good, but do i put it directly in the middle so it covers the corner? or on one side? id like it to come out directly to the room, with some candles all around it, maybe two small lamps on each side.
8I think you should just put some knickknacks up there. Candlesticks, a vase, a small painting or framed photo, a small plant (which will look less overwhelming among the other stuff). Nothing too fussy, too matchy-matchy, or too symmetrical, but some cool stuff that all goes together.
Here are some photos of what I'm talking about.

9Yes, the mirror would be in the center with the lamps on either side.
10Also you could add small plants and candles. Looking forward to seeing
what you do!
thanks for the pictures whip! that really helps!
thanks leopardcc! i promise to post after pics when i finally finish this one!
11I like that third picture - the eneven look of a picture/artwork on one side and asst stuff to the other. It feels much more relaxed than some forced symmetry.
12i really love this fireplace. so beautiful
maybe just some family photos would do,,
13I like the idea of a big floral arrangement as well. or a piece of art but display it
on an easle instead of hanging it, or even a mirror on an easle.
What did you end up doing?
