>Hi Reader,
I have been a voyeur at this site for quite some time and as such I have come to respect your design vision. I need your help ASAP! I recently experienced some water damage to my 1942 custom bungalow. As a result the wonderful insurance company has come through and has agreed to re-install new hardwood floors in my dining room and living room, paint the entire kitchen (including cabinets) laundry room, dining room, living room and to install a new kitchen floor. My problem is choosing paint color for my rooms! I am so overwhelmed with all the options I have been researching. I am posting pictures in the gallery and hopefully here too but it is difficult to get a feel for the space because there is no furniture or art or anything personal in the rooms! So I guess I had better give you some idea what our idea of a comfortable space looks like. We are eclectic in our tastes. Mixed antiques and modern midcentury pieces are scattered about. I collect Shag prints, which are bold and bright with lots of oranges and greens. I also collect tikis but HATE the beachy thing. My husband is an airbrush artist and tends toward bold deep color. Now the house. We have 8 foot ceiling in the living area and dining area with coved ceilings and curved walls. I am installing recessed lighting in all three rooms. The red kitchen island that sits in the dining room in the pictures obviously belongs in the kitchen and well be painted as well. Lots of nooks and crannies and built in cabinets and bookcases scattered about. Give it your best shot! HELP me pick some amazing paint color and I will post the finished result for your viewing pleasure! P.S. I am looking for a chesterfield sofa for the living room in what I envision to be olive green leather. Any ideas? Here is a link to the Flicker site for some pics! http://www.flickr.com/photos/44249767@N05/?saved=1

I just looked at your flickr set. I love the golden yellow of your kitchen. I don't know what color your furniture is. I'm assuming since your artwork is so bright and bold that your furniture is more neutral? I would go with a cooler color on the walls to balance out all the color you'll be adorning the walls with. I would use a light grey. It'll look great with the golden yellow too!
1Yellow kitchen is on it's way out! We need a change. Thanks Harmonyfrance for your input!
2Hi hvenbnd! I'm posting your question tomorrow on CasaSugar as well, but I just wanted to initially weigh in with this idea. Since your home has so many of the original features, how about using a 1940s-era color palette: http://www.colorhunter.com/tag/1940s/1
Check out the greys especially. I think they could work really well with the bolder colors in your artwork.
Also, it's really pricey, but WSHome sells an olive green leather chesterfield:

Since I have built in bookcases on either side of my fireplace what do you think about painting the inside a gorgeous color? I would like to leave the trim throughout the living and dining area a creamy white. Also there are built in twin hutches in my dining room. Color inside?
4I love using color on the interior of shelving. It's such a fun surprise. What is the color on the interior tile work on the fireplace? Is it a green? Perhaps a complementary or matching green would look great on the shelves.
