With our patio project completed, my husband and I were more than encouraged to spruce up the rest of the yard behind our house. This is, more or less, a work in progress but we have made significant strides. The final intent of the space as a whole goes well beyond it being a rather lovely outdoor area to relax and entertain.

With most of our major projects now complete, my husband and I have been spending quite a lot of time on our patio and he's been continuing to encourage me to add another piece of artwork to the set, telling me that the space between our storage fridge and the grill "seems a bit too bare".
After due consideration I agreed with him and we've been discussing the theme of the painting over the course of the last few days. Given that the primary use of the space is to be an outdoor dining room and entertainment area, I thought that a still life of vegetables and fruit might be the most appropriate and that the subject would balance well with The Farmer's Wife privacy screen.

Peri Peri, like WallFlower, had her beginnings as a very humble illustration.
Peri Peri: Original Digital Illustration/Drawing
Funny, when I first created her she got such rave reviews that I created a line sheet, integrating her into some of my original fashion designs.
Peri Peri: Fashion tech pack
But now that I have been spending more time developing her, I see so many things that she looks sick to me and that's what this particular post is really about: developing a work until it meets your own approval in every possible way.

WallFlower, it seems, has really developed a life of her own. What started out as a rather simple digital illustration has been developed on a range of substrates, changing her look with each new version. Here's the progression:

Who said I don't have a sense of humor...
This whimsical, pop art styled cheese burger is the latest, and final addition to our patio.

With Pluckin' Joyful now complete, I've begun the process of translating Ginger Glass from digital illustration to traditional media. Once completed she will be the queen of The Slate Garden Gallery, providing a visual bridge between her sisters, The Farmer's Wife [patio privacy screen] and Pluckin' Joyful.
As is usual, I am working from sketches and digital mock-ups.

If you've been following along in the VAFF or Su Casa groups, you already know that my husband and I have been actively engaged in a HUGE Garden and Patio Makeover project. Part of the Patio Project included creating a privacy screen, cut down to 6' wide by 4' high, from an 8' x 4' sheet of plywood. That 4' by 2' piece has now been put to work and used as a substrate for additional garden art, mountd on the wall of the work shed that my husband built in the summer of 2007.

Before
05/24/2008: The project began with DC cleaning and stripping the cement patio.
After
06/15/2008: The project is 100% complete and utilizes mostly reclaimed, reused, and/or repurposed articles from the late 1940s - 1950s.
I am absolutely delighted with this space.

Do you have a flat panel TV? Their slender shape and light weight make them ideal for wall mounting. The next question is: How do you incorporate your TV into your home decor? As seen in my home, we have arranged a collage of paintings around the TV.
