This is a simple and inexpensive project I made using a cardboard box, doublesided tape and highlighter markers.
The ikat paper was inspired by the brightly colored ikat pillows at Fabricadabra (http://www.fabricadabra.us/)

We just moved into our new house (a sprawling foreclosure), so I had free reign with this room! As you can see in the BEFORE photo, the room was dull, dingy, and needed lots of TLC.My goal was to use black & white in a tasteful way to help the baby's visual development. My first choice was stripes around the room - but I figured that might just make the baby dizzy after a while.

...Pattern-paint seems to have become a reoccurring and inexpensive design element of our home. Our first foray into the field was a smaller wall at the end of our hallway. We choose this wall for three reasons; time, space…and exit strategy…in the likely case that we had failed miserably, the white-out process would have been a snap!

We bought our house just over a year ago, it was built in 1900, and the kitchen had been partially renovated sometime in the 50's-60's. It was basically useless, the faucet had very little pressure, there was one small drawer (the rest were fakes) and the countertops were only 32" high with only 15" between top and bottom cabinets, the ventilation for the stovetop was the ceiling fan (which was also the main source of light)
here are some shots:
(sorry for the funny pose, I don't have any other shots of that part)
We demo'd everything, rewired the entire kitchen ourselves (to bring it up to code), took up the vinyl floors, and had the original fir floors refinished, then rebuilt our kitchen. After seven months of weekend warriorism we finished :) . Our new kitchen has a window over the sink, a small coffee bar, more counterspace, 11 drawers and 9 lights on five different switches. Here are some photos:
we also have a baking nook behind the fridge, with butcher block and beadboard, but I don't have any photos yet.

A lot of my design inspiration comes from nature, and tree branches are the easiest way to bring earthy elements to your home. West elm has jumped on this bandwagon, along with a hand full of other retailers. (click to enlarge my inspiration board below)
I am a HUGE accessories freak.

This all started because I wanted a change in my dining room, and after coming across Damien Hirst's Valium online I knew it would be perfect for my dining room. The only problem... the $20,000 price tag for a print.

dannyseo.typepad.comI want to make this! I have an idea for making a floor lamp possibly, and having things a bit more disheveled.
